Any vets in here - cat advice

Bobby (M 20yrs old) had started peeing in strange places, like my sons bed, bathroom, etc. Totally out of character, but he hates the cold abd would like to stay in all the bloody time if allowed.
I'm just a bit worried because he's old. He's at the vet tomorrow, but I'm really stressing - keep imaging them putting him to sleep Sad
What could it be?? Should I be worried?

I'm not a vet, but had cats over the years.

It could be a water infection, don't think the worst yet x

When you say he wants to stay in -does he have a litter tray indoors?

hocuspocusbitch · 02/03/2021 19:46

Yes, he has access to a litter tray but refuses to use it
Think it's because he's not used it for a few years

There could be lots of possible causes (this is actually a really common symptom we see in cats). Sometimes it’s stress related; sometimes in older cats if they have arthritis, they are simply uncomfortable using the cat flap or litter tray; and sometimes there’s a medical reason.

After examining him, your vet may want to check his urine to look for signs of infection, cystitis, abnormal cells, and if he’s producing a normally concentrated urine; they might also consider doing a blood test to check for common geriatric conditions.

Although 20 is quite old in cat terms, geriatric cat medicine has moved on a lot in the last few years and we are seeing lots more older cats, so they won’t write him off just because he’s older.

Keeping paws crossed for you both :-)
