Why? They get all sorts that aren't covered and I hear that the excess on exotics is huge. I've seen it suggested that you open up a savings account for the tort which you add to each month and you build up a fund.

How old is your tort and what type is he?

Mine are nearly ready for hibernation / actually asleep in the compost bin. Another winter trying not to worry!

so no insurance then is the preffered option?
ive had a quote for £100 anually, with £75 excess but admit to not reading the small print!
we have a spur thighed female one and a half so not going to be hibernating her for a while yet! she had a few probs when we first got her but shes doing really well and growing nicely.

Like GWW I just have a tortie account, touch wood the last few winters have been kind. Previously spent many a spring living at the vet and being tube fed.

(When I first got him he was very neglected and didn't overwinter well)

I've had him 20 years now, how about you? Do you overwinter in vivarium or hibernate them the whole time?

aly,my tort is too small to be hibernated so we keep her in her tort table with lamp over winter and as advised wont hibernate her untill shes 10.
