Quarantine for a cat??

Hi everyone. A few months ago we adopted a little street cat. She’s gorgeous and doing really well. However, we haven’t had her vaccinated yet.

Today I found another one and I brought him home (there are loads of street cats here). I’ll introduce them very carefully when the time comes. However, in the meantime I’m worried about diseases.

The vet has really scared me - she said to quarantine the new cat for two weeks in case of viruses, and that the germs could even be carried to my original cat on my clothes etc. I’ve put the new cat in an upstairs bathroom for now, so the original cat can’t get close, but I’m now paranoid about going near him at all and have just mopped all the floors after feeding him in case there were germs on my shoes. I’ve looked out a set of clothes to wear when I go in to see him that I can change out of immediately, and I’m going for a shower straight after.

That’s fine, I can do it if necessary. However, I suffer a bit from health anxiety anyway and I’m a bit germphobic so this is really setting me off and I’m getting quite upset at the thought that anything could happen to the original cat. I feel like I made a bad decision bringing this new wee guy home Sad If I don’t have to quarantine as strictly as I am then I would like to know; I’d also like some reassurance that I haven’t put my original cat in too much danger if I’m careful about washing.

Has anyone got experience of this? How strict do I need to be? Is two weeks enough?

Thanks!
