Do hamsters really like going in hamster balls?

Hamish has just had his second go in his and pooed and wee'd (sp?) and looked slightly stressed. He had a good runabout but it seemed like he was trying to run out of it poor thing!

Do they get used to them? How do you tell if they are happy in them?

We use a hamster toilet and she wees in the corner and uses the rest for a dust bath.
She also loves her ball but you are only supposed to let them out for about 20 mins at a time. They get too tired otherwise.
