To me, that looks like a burst abscess, maybe gained through fighting

If he seems ok in himself, still eating etc, I’d wash with salt water then leave open. and keep a close eye...

I wouldn’t take mine to an emergency vet tonight.

Agree with ADmum. Leave open- it'll be fine and it won't be a disaster if he gives it a few licks. Decent photos btw.

He did have a cut somewhere on the same leg about 3 weeks ago i couldnt really see it as it was under the fur but he was acting very strange and growling so i took him to the vet and i werent allowed in with him but they told me afterwards he had a bite under the fur and gave him paracetamol and antibiotics, with it being the same leg it might be a burst abcess like you said because i have just googled it and it looks the same, i originally thought it must of been a whole new injury because of the blood. Hes eating plenty though but just seems grumpy i have gave him some of his paracetamol.

Have you got any medical silver silver spray?
When my kitten cut her ear late at night at I was at home with my little kids so couldn’t get her to vets until next day I sprayed this on it after cleaning with boiled water and cotton wool
It worked miracles.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 07/01/2021 21:25

Looks clean to me so I'd keep him in and give it a wipe with cool water.

Is emailing the picture to your vet an option tomorrow? They may be able to advise from that?

Hes eating plenty though but just seems grumpy i have gave him some of his paracetamol.

Um just checking...is the active ingredient meloxicam?

LittleCabbage · 07/01/2021 22:00

I'm a vet.... I hope you don't actually mean paracetamol, as it is highly toxic to cats!

Agree it looks like a burst abscess. Prevent licking if possible, don't spray it with random stuff and ring your vet in the morning.

LittleCabbage · 07/01/2021 22:02

Just seen that the "paracetamol" came from a vet, so v likely was not actual paracetamol!

Wolfiefan · 07/01/2021 22:02

Concerned about the painkiller. Is it something the vet prescribed?
Is he neutered?

Lleeaahh1992 · 07/01/2021 22:10

Yes prescribed by vet ill post pic of it now

This is it. Yes hes neutered, it hasnt stopped him fighting though, he just doesnt wander as far now, and he eats much more 😆

Grand job, since you say he's eating plenty that's fine to give.

indemMUND · 07/01/2021 23:14

Burst abscess from experience. Cool boiled water with a little salt mixed in, dip cotton pads in that and wipe over to clean it.

TheoriginalLEM · 07/01/2021 23:19

That isnt paracetemol - phew!

Id keep that clean and call vet in morning. You can get a buster collar to prevent licking, you will need to keep him in.

I bet theres a new cat in town
