Turtle owners - what do you do when you go on holidays?

I didn't want a turtle, but now we have a turtle. Hmm He's very cute and I've grown to like him a lot, plus I'm his favourite, he comes to the surface and waggles his little legs when I look into his tank.

It's unlikely that we'll go away anywhere before Easter, but I'm already wondering what to do about him when we do go. We bring the dog with us, but clearly it would be almost impossible to do that with the turtle. What do other owners do, do you send your turtle out somewhere or have someone come in to feed it?

Turtle or tortoise? A lot of people use the terms interchangeably. There's a tortoise sitter local to me (not that I have one, I've just seen the signs and found it an amusing thought!)

I don't know how much maintaining a pet turtle or tortoise needs but I'd probably ask someone to come and feed it and clean its tank like I do with the cats (feed and litter them, they don't have a tank haha)

We have a number of useless pets which can't be transported. Neighbour comes and feeds them, makes sure that their lights go on and what not. You can get exotic pet sitters, but, it's expensive and your turtle's better in his own water, really.

Im fairly sure op knows it's a turtle as she mentions it swimming in its tank.. A tortoise would drown.

Some reptile shops offer boarding for when you go away.

Turtle, I'm not exactly sure what type, I had a look online and reckon he could be a Yellow-bellied turtle, an Eastern River Cooter or a Western Painted Turtle. He has quite a large tank with water and a raised basking area at one end.

I'd ask a neighbour (or a local young teen in exchange for pocket money) to come do it. I looked after lot of weird pets when I was younger (pigs, turkeys, peacocks etc) for a bit of extra cash. Leave decent instructions and a contact number though just incase there are any issues

Yes, a local teen might be a good option. I would worry a bit about the house not being locked up correctly afterwards, other people's alarm systems are almost always tricky to use. Although I can turn the alarm on and off remotely, so the teen could text me when he/she has left and I could check that it was on.
