Dog poohing on rug

My normally house trained dog has just poohed on my nice shaggy thick pile rug , he was let out at 8:00 and by 8:40 this has happened
He has done this once before
Whats more annoying is we have vynl floor everywhere else yet he chooses the rug ?
Same as on the odd occasion he is sick he will always go to the rug not the easy to clean flooring
He doesn't have an upset stomach but i have changes jobs and although his routine hasn't changed this may be why its bad enough he has done in the house but i know need to try and clean a thick pile rug , is it because it seems like grass and soft ??
I was actually even in when he done it in the shower
Any ideas for cleaning rug throughly as well ?

Oh god, my boy did exactly this! Wood floors everywhere and he chose the pearl grey shaggy thick pile rug! I assume it was more like grass outside. (He had a stomach bug to be fair, and was mortified he had done it). Your boy may be a bit stressed from what you say? After initially thinking I would just chuck the rug out as I couldn’t face the cleaning, I did clean it, and it survived! Cleaned off the worst of it, then used Dr Beckmans carpet cleaner (multiple times), and my carpet steamer (multiple times). Glad I did it, as you can’t tell now, and it saved one of my fave rugs.

Mine was solid apparently dh nipped in from work whilst i was in shower and found it , as he left he shouted i will deal with rug when i get back , wondered what he meant wasnt until i went down hr later and
rug folded up after phoning he said he picked up used a wipe then sprayed some dettol and would clean it later as was in rush to get back out to work
More annoyed at him as if he had just told me i could of cleaned with washing powder there and then
Now i have no idea exactly where he went and not convinced a spray of dettol is exactly clean , i guess i could scrub whole thing
I had looked at getting it professionally cleaned before and almost cost of new rug
More a dh problem than a dog !!!
