Cat keeps hissing and attacking its own tail

Just that really

Puss is about 5 and recently started to wake up and hiss and start attacking its own tail. I thought it was just having weird dreams.

But the last week or so it's doing it all the time.

Any ideas why? Should I be worried.

I'd see a vet

Could it be fleas ?, they may have grouped by the beginning of the tail

Think I saw a case of this on My Cat from Hell on tv

My first thought was fleas. Something's not quite right anyway if there's a change in behaviour, so I'd get puss checked out.

I don't think it's fleas. He gets regular treatment to prevent fleas.

I might take a video and post it when he does it next.

I think you need to take the cat to the vet. What @dementedpixie mentioned is a possibility but it could also be something as simple as mites.
Let us know what happens.

Mine started doing this and ended up over grooming his tail. Vet said it was a form of anxiety in cats and ocd. Feloway helped and had an anti anxiety drug. I had to put a cone on till his tail cleared up as he kept attacking the same spot.
