Hi I have just moved and have an unsettled cat who refuses to use the litter tray. She is about 10 years old. She goes outside. I have been here about 2 weeks. Any ideas welcome please!

If she is returning without issue is her going outside a problem?

Our cat was re-homed with us from a home where he was used to using a litter tray, so of course we carried on with that. However, we have a cat flap, so he comes and goes as he pleases, and after several months our cat just stopped using the tray, and has never used it since. It was left out for him for quite a while, and I do put it back in bad weather, but he'd still rather go outside!

HI thank you, well I think she is doing both as I have a couple of incidents indoors. She is not used to the litter tray. I keep the door open mostly but will endeavor to get a cat flap.

Might be an idea to use a Feliway plug in. Has always worked for our cat.

The cat needs to adapt to its new environment, and learn to trust you too.
As mentioned already Feliway is a good start. Also showing them when your feeding them so they know who to stay loyal to.
Treats like dreamies sometimes to get them excited. Shake the bag let him sniff and give some.
Cat toys too, so you can have fun with them.
Providing cosy blankets or areas for them to sleep so they feel safe and secure.
