My cat has just been run over (sad)

Can't stop crying - he was only 6 months and was hit by a car tonight. Someone knocked on the door with him in their arms. He was already dead. My only comfort is that he would not have suffered.
His sister is still here and I don't know how hard it is going to be for her to adjust.
They were both going to the vet on Friday to be neutered - sadly Spike is now going tomorrow morning for cremation

Don't know what to do about his sister - the road in front of our house is quiet alot of the time but also takes alot of traffic to another town. Am even wondering if it would be better to re-home her to a quiet house with a quiet road or preferably no bloody road at all.

We have a stream and a farm on the other side of the house - why oh why did Spike go onto the road?

He did have a good six months with us as we love our cats and pamper them. Just so sad that I won't have my lovely Spike coming for a cuddle anymore.

What a shame TCP . I suspect he didn't know anything about it.

Animals do adjust very quickly in my experience, especially if they are young.

I'm so so sorry

I lost a cat three weeks after moving into a house - he ran into the road - cried for five days - never been so sad.

he had a good life with you - hope that gives you lots of comfort

Keep his sister but don't let her out til way after she's neutered - my female cats have always lived a lot longer than the males (even after neutering)

give her lots of cuddles tonight

sending you prayers/hugs

Oh I'm so sorry

Keep his sister. Maybe keep her in until her op and for a few days after it. Then only let her out the back of your house. It might encourage her to stay away from the road.

Not sure what to say to DS. Think I will just have to be honest with him. He's nearly 5 so has some understanding and knows our old cat died after a long illness.
He already knows something is up and is still awake. Not sure whether or not to tell him tonight or to wait until after school tomorrow.

Actually am thinking I should wait until tomorrow. Am I right? Can't think straight.

If you haven't told him yet, best wait till tomorrow now.

So sorry. losing a loved pet is horrid
At least someone brought him home instead of leaving him in the road. Poor puss.

Cannot sleep now. Am drunk on Gin (sort of) so feel calm but hideous.
Sooo sad - he should have had at least 15 years. He caught his first shrew this morning as well....
Also feel very guilty feeling this way when some MNers have lost babies and children. It doesn't really compare.

Thanks swc - am thinking about going back to bed. Dru (Spike's sister) is in the bedroom - doesn't seem too distressed at present.
Thank goodness I am in work tomorrow as I think it will help me.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news, I can understand how you feel. I hope having Spike's sister to cuddle eases some of the pain. (hugs)

daisyandbabybootoo · 10/10/2007 22:54

I'm really sorry about your cat . My cat was run over this time last year and I still really miss him.

If it's any consolation female cats tend not to wander as much as males, even after neutering, so she will hopefully be OK.

I would love to get another cat, but we live very close ot a busy arterial route into the city and wouldn't want it to happen again.

Thank you all for your kind responses. Am feeling more in control today and have come back to work. I didn't go in yesterday as I only slept for an hour on Wednesday night and I cried nearly all night.

Have told DS who is still at an age where he doesn't understand the permanence of death. In his mind Spike has gone to the vets and will come back. Told him that this won't be the case and he seems to have accepted it.
Spike's sister is at the vet this morning being neutered and microchipped. Vet was very nice - lots of sympathy about Spike which made me blub. Said he would have died instantly and not known anything etc
