Guinea pig help

We have had guinea pigs for a few years now. They have a two tiered hutch but hate going to the upstairs bit. I’ve tried encouraging them but they are not interested at all.
We are going to get 2 more guinea pigs as we all love having guinea pigs. Could I board up the gap between the two levels and put the two new guinea pigs in the upstairs? Is that enough space for them? Each pair would have their own run. Or should I just get a separate hutch?

I would get a separate hutch. They will be able to smell the others in their home and could get distressed.

Guinea pigs aren't very agile and often will only use very low ramps. You could try lowering it if you haven't already.

Male pairs should not be kept in close proximity to females so you would probably want a pair the same sex as the ones you have.

Whether one floor is enough space will depend on the size of the hutch. Two guinea pigs need a minimum of 120x60cm, that's on one floor, not split between multiple levels.
