you could take it to the vets tomorrow and ask them to dispose of it for you. think they cremate them.

possibly, but it may be easier than risking cats digging the poor thing up.

When our rabbit died, DH buried it in our garden but we also have lots of cats so we moved a potted tree over the spot to stop cats poking about. Also marked the spot quite nicely. You could take DD to pick a plant or small tree and pot and then have a little ceremony.
