Cat shelter as we have no cat flap?

We've just started renting a new house and we've been told that to put a cat flap in the glass door is going to cost us approx £400!! We're not even sure how long we'll live here so I'm reluctant to spend so much.

To those who don't have cat flaps, do you have any kind of shelter for your cat if you're out or it's raining?

My worry is that my cat sometimes gets beaten up in cat fights and comes zooming through the cat flap for safety and I'd still like her to have a safe space. I'm even considering putting a cat flap in a wendy house for emergency shelter.

You may all think I'm nuts but any ideas gratefully received! Thanks

We have a cat flap in our shed so our cats have access to space if it happens to rain and they need shelter. Apart from that, my babies only go out when we are in the house. We have a lot of strays so my boy gets in to fights alot but i'm the type to just run out to break it up pr squirt water at them until he stops and comes in 😂

£400 is ridiculous money for a cat flap though isn't it!

We have a catflap in the shed too,only one of the cats uses it and the other is indoors more.

We don't have a cat flap. My cat only goes out when I'm at home, and she knocks on the window when she wants to come in. There are plenty of places to shelter in the garden if she does get left outside, but she mostly just comes in when she wants to. A cat flap in the shed is a great idea.

I bought a small cheap guinea pig hutch. I put it outside with blankets inside padded it with cardboard for extra warmth. My cats constantly wander as I live near farms. If they are ever locked out all night they have a warm dry shelter.
