My cat is being PTS on Friday

My beautiful boy is due to be put to sleep on Friday. I know it’s the right thing (he has arthritis and kidney problems - both incurable and causing him pain) but I am completely heartbroken.

I keep thinking that today is his last ever Wednesday and Thursday will be his last ever day with me. Every time I think about Friday I burst into tears.

I have been watching him sleep today and can’t believe that in less than 48 hours he won’t be here.

I miss him already and he isn’t even gone yet.

He will always be my special boy and I know that I’ll never forget him and love him forever x

@bubblybrit - I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face. I am so, so sorry about your loss. I'm facing the same with my beautiful, wise, brave girl...owing to her early start as a starved and abused rescue, she has incurable kidney problems. She is only 4. She is not eating, but is managing water. She spends the night curled up on my knee in the armchair, purring her little heart out. When is the right time? I'm in bits.

@ pollyglot. I’m so so sorry that you are going through this. It’s so difficult and the worst decision I’ve had to make. DH and I made the decision as our little boy wasn’t eating, struggled to walk, had to have injections for the pain every 2-3 weeks and just looked miserable all the time. We just felt that alternative treatments only benefited us rather than him. The little man was ready to go in the end xx

My dog was PTS nearly a month ago. He reached the grand old age of 18, but was struggling with what the vets thought was cancer. Ours wasn’t planned. We didn’t want to say goodbye. But he struggled one night, and the vets thought it was the kindest thing to do. He was on my lap as he took his last breath, and I went through all the stages of grief afterwards... including feeling guilty for letting it happen.

I have cried a lot since, but with time, you begin to remember the good days you had, while the bad days (the night he was PTS) sort of fade away...

@Lightkeeper. I’m sorry for your loss. I do feel guilty even although I think I did the right thing by him....keep thinking that he would be curled up in my lap this now but also aware that he wouldn’t have stayed there for long as his bones would have become too sore. At least now he is in peace which was the last thing I could do for him. Still feel like crying even time I think of him so it’s nice to hear that happy memories will come one day without me feeling quite as broken. Thank you.

am sorry for your loss @bubblybrit - we had to have one of our lovely cats PTS a couple of weeks ago. She fell ill so suddenly and vet thinks it was an aggressive tumour, but it was so heartbreaking..

every now and then I still see her when I come into a room

@myrtleWilson. Thank you. I’m sorry to hear that you have also been through this. I keep looking at his little bed and can see him all cosy and curled up. My other cat keeps looking for him which is heartbreaking.
