Blood in cat's pee

I was really alarmed about an hour ago to see my cat use the litter tray and produce urine that was red. It definitely looked like blood (she hasn't eaten anything dyed a weird colour that I know of). She is a very healthy spayed female, two years old, has been eating okay and is sleeping quite contentedly after being out being active in the garden all morning. Doesn't seem in any pain. I wonder what the situation is with vets -are they seeing animals, doing tests? Does this happen to cats? She has no kidney problems that I know of.

I have heard that cats can get this particular corona virus -it wouldn't be a symptom, would it? She is otherwise full of life. Any advice from vets particularly welcome.

Most likely cystitis- very common in cats. Most vets are contactable via the phone. She needs antibiotics and she is probably in pain. I work in a vets. We are seeing clients

I am not a vet. We spotted blood in our cat's urine. (Brownish stain on white Catsan cat litter.) It turned out to be urinary tract infection. Antibiotics sorted the problem. Hope your cat will be OK.

Thanks. I will contact the local vets and see who is open.

Yes, get them looked at. Cats are very good at seeming ok even ehen they are quite poorly.

She wants out to race around the garden, so odd. Daft thing was drinking water out of a bowl of tadpoles the other day, so maybe she has got an infection there, who knows.

How is she today?

jackdawdawn · 13/05/2020 20:03

Absolutely fine! The litter tray is OK. I don't know what was wrong I will keep an eye out, but seems in very good form, thanks.

I do think you should get her checked out really, even if she seems fine. Just a phone call would do...

Thanks @homemadecommunistrussia. The pee seems clear...she's just leapt out of my bedroom window so doesnt seem in pain!
