Hi All,
well, I didn't realise that the over the counter fleat treatments are so rubbish, and my dog and kitten got pretty flea infested.
(Dog is also allergic to flea bites, and has gotten bad dermatits the poor thing, I feel so rotten for him).

Anyway, both pets are now treated with frontline and I treated the house with Zodiac flea spray.
Well...I also flee combed both several times, and did get rid of a fair few fleas that way.
Only problem is, I ended up with loads of fleabites myself in the process...is that a common thing to happen?
I had no flea bites before treating them and the house...sigh...!
I assume, that the problem should not be sorted and hopefully I won't get any further bites.

Is there anyhting else that I could do?
Also, would iut be worth to also give those Program tablets to avoid any further infestation.
And if that is a good idea, can it be used in conjunction with Frontline?

Also, which wormers are the best ones...we used to get Panacur syrup, but for some unknown reason I can't get hold of that anymore, and have been using the common over the counter things..and well, now that I know that the flea stuff is useless, I assume the same goes for wormers, too?

I use Stronghold which you apply to the back of the neck like frontline. it kills the fleas and also ticks and either round worms or tape worms (but not both) can't rmeember which. Its the best one i've tried.

We used to use Program and it works differently from most flea stuff as it doesn't actually kill the fleas but makes them infertile instead so you can use it at the same time as another traditional flea spray. They worked well for us but it became so expensive paying for those plus the flea killing stuff that we changed to Stronghold. Stronghold makes the animals skin toxic to fleas and their lavae so that when flea eggs in the carpet etc hatch and feed on skin flakes they die. Gross i know but better than a flea infestation.

I use frontline flea drops and droncit wormer drops.

GOOD FLEA STUFF

Frontline or better still Frontline combo that also helps stop the life cycle of those in the environment as well as killing the adults on the pet - apply to back of neck

Stronghold - kills fleas, roundworms and other internal parasites too. Apply to back of neck. If using this for worms a separate tapewormer would be needed.

Advantage - apply to back of neck

Program - Limited to controlling the flea life cycle but does not kill fleas themselves, just stops them breeding more fleas. Can safely be used with any of the above products simultaneously. Tablets for dogs, liquid by mouth or injection for cats (injection last 6 months) To be properly effective it is best to treat all dogs and cats in the house at the same time.

GOOD WORMERS

Panacur is still available as granules and paste plus liquid. No idea why you cant get it currently - does not however treat many types of tapeworm

Milbemax - does round and tapeworms. Better than Drontal wormers in my opinion just because the tablets are smaller and bigger pets especially would also not need as many tablets for a correct dosage.

Drontal plus for dogs or drontal cat for cats. Does round and tapeworms
Droncit spot on only treats tapeworms, unlike the drontal tablets that also do roundworms.

There are a few other products about that I believe are quite good but the above is a summary of my recommendations really.

Bestpetpharmacy sell flea treatments/wormers online.
I use Frontline for fleas and Drontal for worms.
