Advice please about my bunny

Ok story is we've had 2 bunnies, sisters, for the past 3 mths. Went out this morning to find one dead, or so I thought
She was still breathing but cold and not moving, phoned the vets and took her in, they've had to put her to sleep
They said she was very underweight and due to only being 6 mths old has probably had something wrong with her from the start. But I'm blaming myself, I knew she was skinnier than the other one but just thought thats how she was, they both attack the food dish when it is filled but she was always less active so i assumed thats why she ate less. Could I have done anything before now or should I stop beating myself up about it?
So I now have a lone bunny, how am I best finding her a friend and can I put a soft toy in there for her to snuggle up to for the time being, I brought her in the house after my trip to the vets and she went trying to talk to my sons slipper
Any advice greatly appreciated, I should have asked the vets but was too upset.

Oh dear - how sad.

I don't know what you could have done - you were feeding her, she was eating, and you had no other indication that anything was wrong.

I am a very inexperienced rabbit-owner, but I gather that a female and a neutered male make a very good combination - if you get another female now your bunny might get territorial and fight her off.

You could visit your local rabbit rescue centre. There are always lots of rabbits needing new homes and they usually let you take your bunny along to try with a few to see how they get on.
They will be experienced at pairing them up and you will be giving an unwanted rabbit a new home aswell as companionship for your own.

Please don't feel guilty about your bun, she was most likely poorly from the start, like the vet said

i had to separate my two female (sister) rabbits. one fought the other like mad, one has always been more dominant that the other.

it's sad, did you notice them fighting?
