Rabbit

Hi We are hoping to rehome two rabbits this year and are planning to convert my daughters old playhouse into a rabbit hutch and run.

We will be putting a standard hutch inside for sleeping in and then building levels and ramps for entertainment.

Our intention is to rescue two rabbits who are used to being together so just wondered what was best to do in terms of sleeping. Are they likely to want to sleep together so make one big sleeping space or two smaller ones?

Also any other ideas for entertainment?

The are very likely to want to sleep together. Sounds like they are going to be very lucky rabbits!

They will sleep together if they are a bonded pair.

If you are converting a playhouse, don't forget that rabbits burrow so you will need a floor. They also need height so they can stand up fully on their hind legs and jump, don't make the levels too low. They also need horizontal space so they can run around, most rabbit hutches are too small. I've seen 3m as a minimum suggested but that's still not great. The best thing is a really long run, you can buy tunnel systems but you could make one. Have a look at the egglu site for inspiration.

The best way to keep them entertained is variety, keep giving them new things to investigate and swap them over so they don't get bored - a stick they can chew, a willow ball, a potted herb, hide treats and food for them, a cardboard box with hay in it, a big tray of potting compost for digging.

Sorry, the brand is Omlet, egglu is the name of their chicken houses:

Thanks. The playhouse has a floor, good point about the levels and the run size.

Thanks for the advice

Rabbits are amazing, tunnels to another separate play area would increase their activity space. They need to stand stretch and bounce 🥰

I don't like the Omlet set ups - very expensive and often the indoor spaces are TINY and plastic.

Some much better outdoor housing inspiration here:
