Hi

We bought a bird (baby) don't want to say what kind as it's quite outing. But it cost near £1000.
Lovely baby chick - hand fed etc
Anyway birds hide their illness until they desperately need medical attention. We have had him for a couple of months and a month ago he started to show signs that he was very very poorly. We have insurance and took him to the vets who have said he has the illness from a hatchling. The vet bills alone have cost nearly as much as the bird did.

I've tried getting hold of the breeder/pet shop to speak to them and they reply to my messages but won't actually call me. There were other hatchlings from the same nest.

This illness will be on going now and he isn't in a good way but we are getting every treatment available.

The vet said to keep trying the breeder as it's not right we have been sold a very ill bird.
The vet also said as the bird hasn't got any better (is losing a substantial amount of weight each week) it may be best to put him to sleep 😢

I don't know what to do and where we stand. I don't want to lose him as I love him dearly but I also don't want him to have a miserable life either.

We are buying every medication the vet is offering to try and make him better but don't know what to do for the best

Any advice? Sorry the post is so long

Is the vet an avian specialist? I would ask for a referral if not. What does he say is wrong

Yes I made sure my local vet had an avian vet within it.

He has a parasite type of thing that's in his blood like a disorder but he caught it from his mum if that makes sense

Tritrichamonads? I may have made that word up
