How to stop hamster digging at door ?

I have a hamster bought for my DS and we have had him for about a month now. All is well and he seems very comfortable with us and so far no bites or scratches.

Anyway everyday (sometimes twice a day) I take him out of his enclosure and let him roam free in the lounge. He loves it and I love him loving it however he has a habit of running to the door and digging / burrowing for ages.

It doesn’t bother me about the flooring but my issue is I’m more nervous of him burrowing so much that one day he will let himself out of the lounge and I won’t be able to find him. Obviously when I see him doing this I pick him up and bring him to the middle of the room or to another side of the room however he will scamper off back to the door to do it again - so sometimes I can pick him up even 7/ 8 times before putting him back in his enclosure or his ball.

Is there anything I can do to avoid him burrowing at the door ?

Yes stop letting him wander freely. Put him in a ball and let him rip. He could come to harm hes tiny or eat something suspect

Don't stop letting him free roam, just make sure the area is safe. Free roaming is great for hamsters because they naturally cover such large areas in the wild. Hamster balls aren't very nice for hamsters and aren't recommended nowadays.

Can you put one of those long cushion things (can't remember what they're called) across the bottom of the door to stop him squeezing under? Or block it off with anything else?

Yep...get one of those balls....he can have a great run round.
