What does your adult cat eat, how often and how much?

Hello, I've recently adopted a lovely, small, female adult cat.
We are following the advice of her previous care-takers but she seems to hate the dry food...
She eats a pouch of Sheba fine flakes a day (85g) over 2 or 3 "meals". She has Harringtons complete cat food dry food but really doesn't seem to like it.
I just wondered what other cats eat?
Thanks!

Cats should eat 4-6 very small meals per day.
Try scatter feeding and making her "hunt" for her food.

Cat is fat 6kg. He hates dry food. He eats 2 to 3 whiskas fish sachet or 2 tins of fish sheba. He doesnt like felix or lidl own brand, toshiba i think.

I have 4 adult cats - the two boys (large 6/7kg Ocicats, similar to bengals) who are very muscular but not overweight, and the two girls who are tiny 3kg but not underweight.

All four eat Purizon dry food (chicken flavour) from Zooplus. Tried different brands for years to find this one that they all eat, and are well and have lovely poos (!) with. The boys obviously eat larger portions than the girls but they eat breakfast and tea and that's it - leaving food down ime leads to weight issues or cats becoming picky or complacent about their food

Phoebe is a small female. She doesn't eat a lot of wet foods, maybe equivalent to half a sachet or day but she does enjoy dry biscuits.
Currently on felix wet (not by choice, it was what she came to us on and she won't try anything else.) she'll eat any dry food though. She has a bit every 3 or 4 hours rather than a big meal. She often supplements it with a Mousie too.

Toto is double her size and would eat cardboard if we chopped it up and put it in a bowl. He's greedy and doesn't really have an off switch so we limit him to two sachets per day plus biscuits. He also snacks on rodent.

Mine would be starving on 2 sachets a day, he could easily scoff 4. I try to limit it to 3 a day and he is constantly crying for food. Dried food out all day.

My cat is refusing everything at the moment. Never done that before. Will eat about half a pouch a day if that. This after 5 years of eating anything. It's getting quite frustrating

whatswithtodaytoday · 30/03/2020 23:03

Two cats, both 12 years old. Two pouches in the morning (Felix or Whiskas, they won't eat anything else). One pouch between them at about 6pm. Two pouches when we go to bed assuming they've eaten all the previous one... if not then just one.

No dry food, the girl is prone to UTIs and we found stopping dry food really helped.

Raffathebear · 30/03/2020 23:04

Cherry is he ill

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 30/03/2020 23:04

Between 4-6 sachets a day plus raw about 4x a week and a daily chewy bar or lick e lix.

Can't quite believe what he eats tbh but vet is delighted with him.

ClientQueen · 30/03/2020 23:06

3.5kg male. He eats 3-5 pouches a day, sometimes less. And has access to unlimited dry. I also give him salmon oil on his food

RedRed9 · 30/03/2020 23:07

Too much!

I don’t blame her though, her whole life is cuddles, naps and food.

Lolly86 · 30/03/2020 23:09

I have 3 cats. I fill up three small bowls with dry food in morning and when they start emptying later in the afternoon/ evening, I fill them up again. They graze through the day

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/03/2020 23:12

I have three adult, smallish females.
I keep their bowl topped up with whiskas dry, and they share a tin once a day.

TenThousandSpoons · 30/03/2020 23:26

My 2 eat Purina dry food which is available in their bowls all day then a pouch of wet food between them every evening (Felix fish in jelly type).

AmazingAardvark · 30/03/2020 23:30

Congratulations on getting your new kitty - hope you have lots of fun together!
Our smallish female cat (4 kg) gets fed around 200g wet food from zooplus (usually animonda carny) per day, split into two meals (no food left down).
When we adopted her she was on whiskas and often refused to eat it but she wolfs down the higher meat content stuff from zooplus. She loves Millie’s Lionheart dry food as well - I gave some to my friend and her 3 hard-to-please cats went crazy for it too so if she’s fussy that might be worth a try - it’s expensive but as it’s high quality you feed less.

We adopted two adult cats about 18months ago, we were told they hated wet food but turns out they just hated what they were being fed in foster. Give a couple of different brands a go if you have the funds! They vary how much they eat depending on how they feel but I put down fresh wet food twice a day regardless if they finished the previous (this drives my partner mad but I'm in chargeGrin) and some biscuits down every morning. I think cats can be a bit like us and just eat what they feel like when they feel like it!

Animum2 · 05/04/2020 09:58

Winston our cat has 1 tin of Whiskers over the course of a day and he has dried biscuits left for him to eat as well

Animum2 · 05/04/2020 10:00

Here's our Winston

Aw Winston looks lovely!
Thanks everyone for the responses. We are getting a good balance now and our new cat is chilling out and settling in. X
