How can I help find my kitten?

My beautiful young kitty Casper (6 months old) left home in Manchester’s Victoria Park (M14 5AR) area on Wednesday March 4th. We’ve checked all neighbouring gardens, put up posters, flyered neighbouring houses, told vets, and called the council street cleaning team in case he’s been hit by a car. We’ve also followed all advice like leaving out smelly clothes and food in the garden for him to find his way home if lost. He is microchipped.

Five days in, and not a single sighting or bit of information.

If you are in or near the area, please keep everything peeled (especially around Dickenson Road) for this most excellent of kitties and help bring him home! Please also share widely in case he has been stolen or taken in by a kindly stranger. Please PM me your email address if you’d like a copy of his poster.

Is there anything else that can be done?

Go out as late at night as you can, when it's very quiet. Call his name, look in bushes, rattle treats and listen for anything that could be a quiet meow. Keep posters up, knock on immediate neighbours' doors and, if you get oh with them, ask if they'd mind you checking their gardens.

Also, if you haven't already, ring round all vets and rescues. Put his litter tray outside, too. And post on all Facebook groups in your area.

Good luck, hope he comes ho e safely.

Thanks Weeble09! It’s a terrible feeling. If he’d been squashed by a car, at least there’d be closure. This way I feel as though I could always be doing more to find him, despite a huge effort of flyering, postering, and social media work.

Have you asked neighbours to check sheds, garages etc? Was there any work vans in the street that day? I’ve scanned cats miles from home who’ve jumped in vans.
Is he on FB groups for lost pets? community groups? Local Cats Protrction?

Crossing all for you x

Empty the contents of hoover into garden .
Go out when dark and quiet.

Really hoping he is home soon

Could you ask the Central Mosque and the sixth form college, etc if they can help, eg if you could put up posters there as loads of people will pass through both.

sparklezzz · 09/03/2020 01:23

Wow thanks all, great advice! I’ll try all of this (I have checked neighbours gardens already though). As for the works van... no idea, unfortunately. I didn’t get worried until late afternoon and they’d likely have left by then, when I noticed how long he’d been gone.

Any sign @sparklezzz?

sparklezzz · 10/03/2020 21:49

Nothing :( I’ve followed just about all advice now and spent quite a few full days out flyering, postering and doorknocking. I’ve become more philosophical about it. I hope he isn’t trapped or injured, but if he has been stolen or got lost and was taken in by somebody else, I’m fine with that more or less. Cats are mysteries which can only be borrowed, not owned! I enjoyed raising him from a baby to be a fair sized and feisty teenager and I hope he can take care of himself if necessary.

It's still early days yet really, we've had a couple go missing for nearly a week (one was found stuck on a roof!) but know of ones returned safely after a lot longer. Keep posters up just in case, as someone may spot him and the poster then remind them about him.

JKScot4 · 11/03/2020 20:39

Is he posted on all local FB groups? ours is great for finding missing pets. Also on lost pet groups too.

HappyHammy · 11/03/2020 20:42

Look at lost and found pets for your area. Hope he comes home safelyFlowers

HappyHammy · 11/03/2020 20:46

I saw him on that lost site, paws crossed.

JKScot4 · 19/03/2020 14:09

Any news?

EachandEveryone · 19/03/2020 14:12

I hope he comes home soon x

sparklezzz · 19/03/2020 16:41

Thanks all! No news. Not a single sighting. Trying to be patient and hoping a vet scans his chip sooner or later, though I hear that they are not obliged to hand him over to me if he has been stolen...

I'm so sorry. All I can say is I had a young cat disappear for just over 2 weeks once and he turned up filthy and very very hungry and cross at the back door one day. He had obviously been in someone's shed. I hope yours turns up soon.

Oldestchild90s · 20/03/2020 20:08

Fingers crossed you find your baby 🤞🏻☹️

JKScot4 · 31/03/2020 12:21

Any news?

Oldestchild90s · 06/06/2020 16:15

@sparklezzz any news yet?!

sparklezzz · 06/06/2020 16:57

Thanks for the interest all. No news sadly, not a single sighting. We tried every suggestion made and more. We are moving on now as it’s been several months, but in the back of my head I know he is chipped so if he ever turns up at a vets we may yet see him again :)

Oldestchild90s · 06/06/2020 18:15

@sparklezzz Really sorry to hear that. I like to keep positive thoughts in my mind when things like this happen, he's probably living the life somewhere although it doesn't make things any easier for you. Fingers crossed, you never know!

Roselilly36 · 06/06/2020 18:36

It’s so upsetting I know, good advice on here. It could be that he’s been taken in by another household, have you contacted your council, they will have a record of any casualties that they have collected. I hope you find him OP not knowing is the worst thing. Good luck.

Mooey89 · 06/06/2020 18:39

It’s so hard isn’t it. Our cat once went missing for 3 weeks. He was trapped somewhere. We were convinced we’d lost him. One day I came home and here he was, skinny as anything, covered in cobwebs and mewling like it was all my fault 🤦🏼‍♀️
Miracles happen OP but I’m so sorry for what you’re going through.

Windyatthebeach · 06/06/2020 18:48

I found our dcat after missing for 6 months.. Don't give up op..
