Help... I've just cleaned my daughters hamster cage with oven cleaner!

The spray bottle looks the same as the pet cage disinfectant we've got.

Obviously I've rinsed everything with hot water. If I clean it again with the disinfectant will it be ok to put the hamster back in?

I would leave the hamster somewhere else for a bit (tricky I know) and put the cage outside to air, don't use another chemical cleaner on it as they can react and give off noxious fumes.

He's in his ball at the moment so I can leave him for a bit but we have to go out later. Do you really think its ok not to clean it again?

Rinse it loads and loads and loads, and then air it

My DH used oven cleaner on the tray of DS' highchair the other day WHILST DS was in it!!! He couldn't work out why I was so cross (DS has asthma and heart problems).

So I guess it's easily done.

If you aren't sure about the cage, put hammy in the bath for the night with all his usual bits. Mine used to love that. No water.

Well he seems ok.

Popped him back in cage this afternoon, when we had to go out, after airing it outside for a few hours, gave him some new bedding to make a nest so he wouldn't go straight to sleep.

So he's been back in his cage for around 6 hrs now... presumably he'll be fine now?

easiest cleaner is lemon juice n vinegar - safe for all and just as effective... and not likely to look like oven cleaner lol lol
