Is this fair on a puppy?

Friends of ours have just bought a chocolate Labrador puppy who is GORGEOUS and 9 weeks old. He works full time commuting to London and she works part time. They have a puppy crate and contend they have sorted out a dog sitter/walker who can pop in or take puppy for short walks once he's vaccinated. Once I got past the stars in my eyes I wondered how ppl really do it with puppies. Surely leaving a 9 week old puppy at home while you work all day is unkind at best cruel at worst? Isn't it in fact like leaving a toddler on their own? I'm not suggesting it's cruel leaving older more established dogs at home with walkers in the day but a puppy? Really? However I hear lots of ppl do it and I'd be interested in hearing how that works out in reality - toilet training, noise, separation anxiety etc.,
Thoughts?

If this is genuine then it's cruel beyond belief. They are shits of the highest order. This is why I hate crates because ignorant people abuse them and the poor creatures they incarcerate in them.

Your friends are twats.
I reported a friend for ddog cruelty.
And she is no longer a friend.
Consider it op.

And no - it's not like leave a toddler in its own, it's like leaving a baby on its own. One that has just been taken away from its mother.

Except surely it depends what "she works part time' actually means

I know people who do 3 hours in the evening.
Maybe partner is home some of that time.
And they have dog walkers in between.

I imagine that's not the case, but as we only have half the actual info here everyone's jumped on the animal abuse train pretty quick

Mrwoof - well some of us based our responses on what the op said:

Surely leaving a 9 week old puppy at home while you work all day is unkind at best cruel at worst

Surely that means what it says on the tin that there will be days when the puppy will be left at home "all day" - ie that the part time worker does a few full days a week rather than a few hours a day? Why else would the op say that?

As I said, I'm sure they are doing it wrong, but we do not have that spelled out to us.

What we do have is lots of people shouting abuse but not actually answering the question that was asked or confirming the facts.

Lots of people shouting abuse??!!! The op has only had 3 people respond and one of them is you!!! And I think two of us have answered the question 'is this fair on a puppy?' And without shouting.
