Hi all
I hope this post will not bring me comments like 'if you can't afford to pay for your dogs care then you shouldnt have one'.
Sadly my circumstances have changed drastically.
I have a French bulldog and have had him since 10 weeks old. When I got him I was on my own in a well paid job. I was made redundant. Fell pregnant, and nearly all of my DS life I have been a single parent on a low income working full time, saddled with the exs debts all in my name. So my financial situation is not down to me being irresponsible.
My dog is now 6. This year his insurance premium increased to £1300 from only £300. They put this down to his breed and age. Comparable quotes were all over £1000 so I just couldn't do it. Not only the cost but all his health issues are on his vets records therefore are excluded, so financially I am still open to alot of risks. Sadly my dog has never had the best health. He has alot of lifelong issues. There have been many times I've had to increase my debts to cover his costs, but my finances have took a hit again. I really don't know what to do any more :(
He has had issues with his anal glands all his life. In the last 6 weeks he has two burst abscesses at a cost of over £300. Now I am told his only option is surgery to remove his gland at a cost of around £1000 to £1500. I wanted to cry as I simply don't have that sort of money and I have no access to money anywhere near that amount.
I have learnt I am eligible for low cost treatment from the Pdsa. Please don't judge me, I never wanted to be in this situation. I was just wondering what that actually means? Is it a fixed cost or a percentage of the treatment?
Thank you for your time x
