What are these lumps on my new mummy cat?

My cat gave birth to 3 gorgeous kittens yesterday who are feeding well but I have just noticed by her back two teats (is that what you call them?) there seem to be two big hard lumps, is this normal? She doesn't seem to be in any pain when I touch them but if this isn't normal I want to get her checked out by the vet tomorrow before it gets any worse.
TIA

Maybe shes engorged?

alfielooloo · 16/08/2007 20:29

Does being engorged need treatment or does it clear up by itself??

alfielooloo my cat gave birth yesterday also and she has them too i think its just the teets the kittens arent sucking on as much so they are really full, try putting the kittens to them. Its normal to see all kinds of different lumps and bumps on new mummy cats and congratulations

ikiketosleep, congrats to you too Thanks for that, only three kittens so yes I think there is lots of milk, will try putting babies on them see if that works.

alfielooloo · 17/08/2007 19:43

Sorry, went to bed & have been out all day so first chance to log on.
Yes, it's her first litter, they are absolutely gorgeous & me & dc want to keep them all but dh says no

yeah i know that feeling lol what colours are they?

alfielooloo · 17/08/2007 22:24

Her lumpy bits are much better today, I tried putting the kitties on to them to feed so it was obviously an excess of milk.
They are all black & white. Two mostly black with white tummys, feet & necks & one with cow like markings which we have all fallen in love with. dc are calling it spotty, think we might keep that one, if I can get round dh
Not much success in sexing them first day I told everyone they were girls, then yesterday it was 1 boy & two girls. Have looked at their bits this morning & I now think they are all boys! Never done this before (can you tell?!!) sounds easy when you read up on it but I am finding it quite tricky.
How many have you got iliketosleep & what colour are they? Isn't it lovely just watching Mummy cat with them, ours is only 11 months old so just a baby herself, am so proud of her.

aww, well I have 4 cats, smokey, baby, molly (babys daughter), and elle. Baby has had 2 litters 1 being 7th of august (mollys birthday)last year and another in april this year, She turned out to be a very good mum! This litter is mollies 1st making her just over a year old and although she hasnt caught on as quick as her mummy she is trying her best and im so proud of her!!

All 3 litters have produced 4 kittens, with both of babies litters she had 3 girls and a boy and they were unusual which i will try my best to describe! If you imagine a tabby they are grey or brown with black stripes? well these are the reverse. They are black with brown and grey stripey patterns and white paws . They have all been like that apart from molly who is pure tabby like her mum. (I'll post some pics)

Molly has had 2 pure tabbys identical to her and 2 unusual tabby type ones and they are all boys.

Right as for the sexing of them the way to tell is hold them in the palm of your hand,(back to palm) move the tail outta the way as they always hide themselves lol. If the anus and other "bit" is close together with no space between them at all then its a girl, if there is about 3mm space between the anus and bit then its a boy. hope this helps

iliketosleep · 17/08/2007 23:34

p.s Im glad her lumpy bits are better

iliketosleep · 17/08/2007 23:49

ive posted some pics and ill get some of the new additions tomorrow to post

alfielooloo · 18/08/2007 12:24

Your cat's sounds lovely, I love tabbys, it was what I wanted but we ended up with a black one as she was the one dc wanted.
I think our babies have doubled in size overnight no wonder mum is eating so much.
Thanks for the info on the sexing, I think they are all boys as there is a space between their bits. I was hoping there would be a girl we could keep. Boys allways seem to have a bad press for weeing in the house. We have only ever had one male cat & he used to wee by the door & also on my leather sofa never had this problem with females. Anyone got any opinions on this, were we just unluck with him?

ive never heard of it to be honest, I have 1 male and 3 females and my male has never wee'd in the house although the females do i think each cats personality is different, although if they wee once its a good chance they will go again in the same spot.......

nomoremagnolia · 18/08/2007 12:37

Well I've had two girl cats and two boy cats (all neutered) and it was the girl ones who peed on stuff - territory marking spraying rather than toileting though. Don't know if it is just each cat to it's own or if neutering made a difference?
Would love to have kittens but current two are boys and were neutered by CPL when we got them. I was only little when we had the two girls and despite many efforts by myself and my sister we never got mum to agree to letting them have a litter before being spayed

nomoremagnolia · 18/08/2007 12:39

Have you tried feliway spray - it worked (mostly) on our girl cats - they liked to mark on the floor length curtains so we sprayed the curtains with feliway and it helped but didn't stop them completely. It's worth a try though if you do keep one of the boys.

alfielooloo · 18/08/2007 12:40

That's good news, we probably will keep one, can't let all my babies go
dd starts school in September so at least I will still have a baby at home
