My old lovely ginger tom who is 15- has recently started pooing beside the tray, and not in tray

I'm going to completely empty trays at weekend and wash etc to see if that helps

any other ideas??

hi i have only just got a kiten so don;t really know too much but have read in book about litter etc and

it says that if the tray is at all dirty they might refuse to use it

if you have recently changed the litter they may not like it

and if they are going on the floor to clean it up with something minus ammonia as the smell can attract them to keep going in that place

can he get into the tray ok?

keeping it clean as poss is good plan.
Possibly as he is getting older his 'aim' isn't a good...
Could try a tray with a closed in lid (looks like cat carrier but with litter in it)...but he may not like that if not used to it.

we had two of those trays with tops on them and i thought umm maybe it is getting more difficult to climb in as he gets older so took lids off.

I have decided though to try a new tray just for him with lower sides just in case - good idea- thanks

so you use something to clean floor minus ammonia- i'll check what i've used.. thanks- at least so far its no where else.
It seemed to start when he got locked in spare room and ended up pooing on duvet which seemed to upset him...

Our 16 yr old cat started to do that, we cleaned the tray, moved the tray to where he was pooing (which was right next to where the tray was), cleaned the floor, tried feeding him there but non of these worked, it always happened at night so now on the vets advice he goes out at night unless the weather is very cold or really nasty. We still have the occasional accident in the day but we just came to the conclusion that he's a lazy moggy!
