My cat has a shitty arse and won't wash (did I mention she also smells)

Well I think the smell and the arse may be connected. She's a turkish angora (think white long haired archvillain cat), we were told they only lived till 8 years old but she's still her nearly 14 years later.

I have to wash her every couple of weeks but she always has a shitty bum and I hate it. Does anyone know if there is anything you can do to force them to wash?

She had a traumatic birth of six kittens (when she was about two months old - before we could have her sterilised) and I think it may have given her a baggy undercarriage but the bet was no help and just said 'she'll get better'.

Wash her!

And shave her bum.

There are also cat groomers out htere.

GodzillasBumcheek · 11/08/2007 22:10

Erm, i know nothing about cats, but eeeewwww! Tell her to wipe her arse

Bewilderbeast · 11/08/2007 22:10

pmsl great thread title. Afraid I have no advice

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 22:10

I have tried to shave her bum but the closest I get is a short back and sides because she won't sit still.

May look into cat groomers though. I don't want to hurt the little bugger, but she honks and she has taken to coming and seeing us in the night and stinking up the bed urrrggh.

We take our Persian to a cat groomer.

magnolia1 · 11/08/2007 22:12

You can't force her to wash and at the age of 14 maybe she is finding it harder to get to her bum!
Either take her weekly to a groomer or washe her every few days. You may need tio get her fur clipped shorter to make it easier.

expatinscotland · 11/08/2007 22:13

The groomer is BRILLIANT at shaving bums - believe you me, she'll get her to sit still and be fast as lightning.

pmsl at thread title!

Sending Andrex Moist wipes your way for the cat!!

GodzillasBumcheek · 11/08/2007 22:16

Did anyone else see how funny Magnolia's post would be if applied to human 14 year old or was it just me

magnolia1 · 11/08/2007 22:19

Godz

I agree she can't reach to groom properly - she is a fat lazy sod though and she doesn't try very hard! Perhaps if we stuck a bit of salmon up her arse she might have a go but otherwise, she's happy as a pig (sorry cat) in shit!

I didn't know cat groomers really existed (I know that sounds naive) but it just would never have occurred to me that there are people whose career choice is washing other people's moggies! I'll have to get the yellow pages out and see if I can find one.

You might even get it on the cheap if there is a college near you doing animal grooming courses...although it's up to you if you trust an inexperienced college lass near your moggies butt!

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 22:26

Godzillas - even the worst student is going to be better than me, trying not to breathe while holding a damp cat with a pair of scissors in my hand!

Good luck on that then...i think good luck to poor cat my be in order too!

whomovedmychocolate · 11/08/2007 22:48

Hurrah I have found two groomers within a few miles. Will have to phone and see if they will see her. It'd never occurred to me to pay someone else to do it - it's just such a horrid job. But maybe if we can get her spruced up it might inspire her to wash (well you never know, miracles do happen!)

she had kittens at 2 months old??? 8 weeks old???

Wilkie · 18/08/2007 14:06

Whomoved - this is really minging so look away if squeamish...

My cat gets blocked anal ducts which make her smell - they also cause her to moonwalk (skate across the room on her bum). You have to take them to the vets and they then squeeze the gunk out of the anal ducts.

Maybe that is the problem??

iliketosleep · 18/08/2007 15:39

my mums dog has that and she was taught to do it by the vet, somehow sticking a finger up the dogs arse doesnt sound appealing so she never did it lol

beautifulgirls · 18/08/2007 16:22

If she is not grooming at all in general you should get your vet to check her teeth. Dental pain is often linked to poor grooming, and despite her age she may need to have some removed to help her overall health. So long as otherwise she is in good health then she should be fine to have that done. Your vet will be able to advise you if it is the right thing for her though.
