Clever dogs

Dogs have had a lot of bad coverage on Mn lately, chiefly for eating poo.
To even things out, can we talk about clever things our dogs do?
Here's some things my dog does. Not enough to get into the Gifted and Talented forum, but I love him for it anyway.

*When he hears the little 'goodbye fanfare' that Windows plays when you log off, he leaps from his slumber and stands by the front door -- because this is usually the sign that I'm finishing work for the day and am about to pick up ds1 from school.

*When I say 'Bedtime ds2!' he hurls himself upstairs because he knows we will feed the guinea pigs and he will get the chance to stand by the cage and fantasise about murdering them.

*He can climb trees.

Any more?

And as soon as I form the thought 'I will brush my dog', he hides behind the sofa. How does he know?

Oh I was really looking forward to hearing about dogs that could type, sing, do long division. No one got a clever dog?

I knew a golden lab that used to eat the chocolates off the Christmas tree, the clever bit was he only ate the ones at the back where no-one would notice they were missing!
BUT he ate them foil wrapping and all, and then was rumbled when sparkly poos were found in the garden!!!

lol at sparkly poos.

Dh once said in a normal voice to dog1 "You know, I do believe there is a pussy cat in the garden" and dog1 shot out to investigate. No exciting voice or anything!

He also shakes the water off after a bath when I give the command 'shake'.

My dog lurks by the Guinea Pig cages when we clean them out...................sadly just to munch their poos!!! We like to think he calls them savoury treats.

Hamster / Rat poos are called fun size savoury treats by him.

He is quite smart though and can say the word "Walk" in a morning - honest!

Lol. Guinea pig poos are very agreeable looking. Like little brown bananas.

One of my dogs loves torches (The Maglite kind) and when we go to my parents house she has her own baby maglite that she plays with.
She knows exactly where it is kept and knows that the only person who will give her what she so desperatly wants is my dad, so sits and stares at him. Dad says to her 'show me' and she will lead him to the drawer where it is kept

Also the same dog is able to tell you what hand you have something in (You know when you hide your hands behind your back, iykwim) it is usualy a wine cork or something and she tell you by giving you a high five on the hand that it is in.

Wow! What kind of dog is she?

We don'thavedogs, but I work on a shoot sometimes & one of the guys there has a Sringer Spaniel that responds to hand signals. He doesn't have to say a word, just signs at her & she does exactly as she's asked. She is only 18 months old.God knows what she'll be able to do as she gets older.

Thats the kind of dog I'd like.
