We are getting her on Monday, we have looked up basset names on the net, and cannot agree. DD likes 'sweet' names, the ds's don't. Any ideas?

Terbor as in Trebor Basset ?

zaphod · 03/08/2007 10:49

I like it, but it's more of a male name.

my dd has asked for a puppy. She wants to call it Jude. It's sad because that was the name of our beloved dog that is no longer with us.

Allsorts

as in Bassets Liquorice Allsorts!

Gizmo · 03/08/2007 11:12

There's a whole bunch of very traditional hound names (and I mean hundreds) which are proven to be easy to shout across open country!

Sadly I can't find a list online but some that are fun include:

Havoc (as in 'Cry Havoc, and..')
Bullet
Zadoc
Bartleby

I dunno, while I love them, maybe they're a bit 'grand' for little ones...

We were considering Wilma, as in Fred and Wilma Flintstone. This is my fourth basset, the others were Cassie, Columbo, and Dilly.......They are stubborn dogs who do their best to train their owners and normally succeed, they love sleeping and eating and lying on the furniture.

I've got a friend named Freda, who wouldn't understand.

Bartleby's nice for a male, and I like Jude. Will run these by the dcs.

Butter. As in "Nothin' butter hound dog"

zaphod · 03/08/2007 11:28

Ds1 thinks Rosie is too girly

OP posts:
SweetyDarling · 03/08/2007 11:28

And yes I know those aren't the real lyrics!

zaphod · 03/08/2007 11:31

Love Butter. Looking back over the list Tess struck me as good, told the kids, I forgot thats Granny's name

CountessDracula · 03/08/2007 11:41

my dog is a hound and called Ruby
it suits her so well

CountessDracula · 03/08/2007 11:43

I also think Nell is v sweet for a dog

SweetyDarling · 03/08/2007 11:46

You may as well call her Granny then Zaphod!

Saturn74 · 03/08/2007 11:47

Pumpkin or
Bumpkin or
Bessie

zaphod · 03/08/2007 11:56

Would you believe I spent the morning trying to convince the kids Ruby was a good name?

PellMell suggested Rebo, which inspired me to think of Reba...that's a good ol' gals name, right?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 03/08/2007 13:56

i like Boots for a dog

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 03/08/2007 13:58

I have two bassets and they deserve grand, fun names as they are very grand characters

I think something regal would be great!

Mine are Peanut and Jake because of their kennel club names (Houndstone Jacob Bramble and Lytes Peanut Butter Delight)
