Baby Chinchilla

Just looked in my chinchillas cage and discovered that I now own three chinchillas instead of two!The baby is very cute and about the size of a small hamster.
Now have to decide what to do as cannot keep three in the size cage I have and also cannot have my original two producing babies every four months.
Bit annoyed at the pet shop really as they sold them as two females which they obviously aren't.
No immediete rush to do anything as the baby has to stay with its mum for 8 weeks anyway.
Just thought I'd share the news!

aw bless
Can you post a pic?

You could wait and see what sex the baby is. If its a girl you could keep mother & Daughter and rehome Dad, don't know if you can keep a father and son together though. I know my aunt kept a mother and daughter together. We had one of the other daughters, they're lovely, have fun with them.

How long have you had the parents and how long are they pregnant for? It could be possible that one was pregnant before you got it?

I would ring your vet and just ask to speak to the vet/vet nurse who is knowledgeable about exotics and ask them about father/son etc living together and to see if one could be neutered to prevent more babies

Thanks for all your replies. We have had them for six months now and the females are pregnant for four so it could happen again!
The male has been seperated from the mum as they are supposedly very fertile just after giving birth.
We did think about keeping the baby and the same sex parent - will have to wait and see what the baby is. Otherwise its down to the vets with the male!
Will try and post a pic soon before s/he gets too big!
