Old cats excessive moulting.....dh thinks she's dying?

She dosn't appear ill though. But the amount of fur she is losing is much more than normal. She is about 15,still doing everything else normally, just moulting for England. I pick up fluff from chairs/floors etc about 5x a day.
Anyone had this?

thats really wired beacause i came down today and my sofa is covered in hair from my cat age 10, do you think it may be the time of year? maybe in anticipation of summer!!!! if it arrives...

I'm not an expert but have a cat myself, who is probably over 10 or 11.

I would say if she seems healthy otherwise, then she probably is healthy. My cat is also moulting for England at the moment - it's just that time of year I think.

Hopefully it's nothing!

My mother's old cat lost a lot of hair - she actually got bald patches. It turned out to be a hormone problem. She went on HRT and lived another 6 happy years. Could yours be the same?

Hope that's all, dh thinks its a "sign" ! But am taking dds to Cats and Dogs home to do some dog walking today so will get her a good brush and see if a good groom helps.

Batey - tell me about the dog walking! We would love to do that but don't know how to go about it.

Thanks Katelyle, I will have to take her to get checked if it carries on, maybe it is a hormone thing? As she has the start of patches on her legs. Have only taken her last month for her jabs though and it always costs a packet.Ah well.

Sorry missed that, we go to our local Cats and Dogs home when they have public walking times, 1 adult can take a 1 dog. They give smaller "kid friendly" dogs if you have children. There is a lovely area nearby to walk It's free, good exercise and fun. I have a lead and so do the kids so they feel like they are in control.And you make a dog very happy! Last time dh and i both had a dog each, who were mates! It was great fun. Dds even want to go when its pouring down, they get wellies and waterproofs on and off we go! We always go and see the cats to and sometimes get a "cat cuddle"!
