maine coon cats are typically very friendly x

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2019 19:13

Honestly? I would go for an adult rescue. That way you know if you’re getting a mouser or a lapcat!

TheABC · 12/05/2019 19:14

Maine Coon for kids.
Generic tabby for lapcats. Grin

moggies! Get an adult one and you will have the best idea of temperament. A rescue centre will have so many to choose from, most people want kittens but when they're an adult you have a better idea about what their personality will be like, and older cats are often cuddlier too.

Get an adult rescue. Breed and temperament aren’t anywhere near as closely correlated in cats as in dogs. The only real way to know whether you’re getting a chilled out lap cat or a bitey, scratchy demon is to get an adult cat whose personality has settled. I knew I wanted a chilled, cuddly cat so went to a rescue and got the cuddliest fuss-monster they had. She was a two year old Maine Coon (though I suspect she’s probably a cross rather than a pedigree) and she’s been the best cat ever. My friend has a Maine Coon that is totally diffrenent though, highly anxious and nervous.

Moggys, rescues are always looking for good homes for cats/kittens. I personally have found neutered boy cats to be soppier.

SoftBlocks · 12/05/2019 22:42

Neutered male ginger are very friendly.

I have a Maine Coon cross British Shorthair. He’s ridiculously friendly and very patient with my dc’s. Maine Coons are generally considered to be very friendly. The only thing I worry about with him is if one of my dc’s did wind him up the wrong way and he swipes at them he could do a bit of damage as he is a large, strong child at.

*cat, not child at

What a sweeping statement. None of the five I've had have been.

We have two Burmese - they love the DC and snuggle up with them on the sofa. They're very needy and love being with us.

I've got two rescue Persians and they are wonderful. Very affectionate.
