i have a cat who has just turned 1 yr and still has not had any balls drop yet!! he keeps getting frisky with his sister and she is getting fed up with it. just wondering if he will need surgery in the future or if vets will leave him as he is as i got him from cats protection and it was compulsory to have him neutered but not poss yet? anyone had experience with this?

This is called bilateral cryptorchidism when both testicles haven't descended. He will still need to have them removed but unfortunately it involves a more complicated operation.

oh dear! perhaps i should take him back to the vets then to see if thats what they recommend. luckily he is insured so we should be covered money wise.

do u know if this procedure is risky as u said it was more complicated?

It is not more risky as such, just more fiddly for the vet to perform - they have to go into the body cavity to get the said balls out! Probably no more risky than spaying a female cat. More risky if you leave it as I think there is increased risk of testicular cancer with undescended tescticles.

Just check with you insurers if they will cover this op. They usually don't cover straightforward neutering but might pay for this as you could argue it would affect his health if it wasn't done.
