Can anyone recommend a flea/tick collar?

Just that really.

I've noticed that our 10 month old dog recently picks up ticks when we walk him in the nearby woods (despite using advocat regularly). They are a pain to remove!

Are the collars any good? Which brand?

Advocate doesn't treat ticks

As PP said advocate does not treat ticks.

You could try the seresto collar which is meant to work up to 8 months. You can normally get this from your vets.

However, I use nexgard spectra which is a monthly tablet which treats worms, fleas and ticks. The fleas and ticks do have to bite him but are dead in 24 hours and then easily fall off.

Seresto collars best for ticks.

Advantix spot on can be used alongside advocate (leave a week gap or alternate each every 2 weeks) and it treats ticks

We use bravecto every 3 months for fleas and ticks and milbemax/Milpro every month for worms (including lung worm) and have never had any problems with either even through the local Facebook pages has a few dog owners mentioning problems with tics from the fields/woods where we walk.
