Is there anything that works for cat fleas that doesn't cost as much as Frontline? It can't be a spray because one of mine goes ballistic if he sees a can of Pledge. And he is the one who is a proper fleabag!

Hi

Frontline spot on has just had its license changed, so is now available through pet shops who hold an Amtrac licence, with out having to see the animal, only need your name and address. My pet shop is in Spalding and sells 3 month supply for £15.35 or 6 month for £25.60. Def. do your house as well -Nuvan Staykill will last a year for £12.35 (not too bad per month)

Brilliant - you don't do mail order, do you, outinthesticks? I'm outinthesticks too!

Or did you mean the pet shop you go to, rather than the pet shop you own?

You can get Frontline online now. It's much cheaper.
Think I paid £19 for 6 months worth.
Loads of sites do it.

definately use frontline and indorex although depending on size of house you may need a couple of tins to do it properly. wash any blankets etc that cat sits on as hot as you can.

adult fleas need food to survive but are not fussy who they bite. cat fleas are the most common fleas on dogs. the eggs. larvae and pupa that are in the carpet can lie dormant for months which is why people often have a flea problem when they put heating on in winter as the warms encourages hatching.

you def need to sort the house to stop the cycle as one adult flea can lay thousands of eggs.

also make sure you are up to date with worming with drontal cat as fleas are an intermediate host for tape worm and carry the eggs which starts the cycle of tapeworm off.

I use Bestpet pharmacy for flea treatments and wormers.
I find them cheaper than my vet

sorry!! I work in pet shop, used to be VN prior to being a mummy - out of hours and babies do not mix well!!!

Don't do mail order sorry, but many local pet shops should be qualified, you must ask though as they have to keep it locked away (also sell drontal cat/dog/panacur and all horse wormers btw)

Do agree though that online sales seem to be very cheap (haven't bothered myself as i am v. lazy!!) loads of people are now asking vets for private scripts so they can order on line (making vet squirm a bit )

being outinthesticks is a bugger at times!!

i have the same problem with fleas.i am worried about sparying the house, though,as i have nowhere to take the dc overnight(there are 5 of them and dd3 is only 4 months old).

i cant afford to get a proffesional to do it,does anybody know of any sprays etc that are reasonably safe?

ruty · 17/07/2007 21:46

just try to get one that is not an organo-phosphate divamum. And keep the kids outside for the afternoon while you spray. It'll be ok, it is just numerous treatments you need to avoid...

jodie1984 · 19/07/2007 10:26

I thought staykill has been taken off the market because it doesn't meet the standard guidlines (I'm sure it was too dangerous or something)

probably. I've used it loads of times in the past.

outinthesticksmummy · 20/07/2007 07:39

Jodie

Think Nuvan Top was withdrawn a few years ago. Nuvan Staykill still readily available.x Nuvan Top was the spray for the animal though not environment

jodie1984 · 20/07/2007 15:42

I'm sure staykill aswell we dont sell it in out practice anymore, I'm sure thats the reason why, but I may have got it wrong.
