Aggressive dog and breeder won’t refund, HELP!

Recently purchased a German Shepherd from a breeder and when I got the puppy home, he attacked me and my husband, before we got inside the house. I had to go to the hospital and have 4 stitches in my hand, and have other parts glued. We can not get the puppy out of the kennel. He is fine with me, but growls at my husband everyday. He will not go outside. We called the breeder on the way to the hospital and he made it seem like it was our fault, but he is only male aggressive. We want to take him back, but the breeder will only refund half of our purchase. The puppy is still at our house because he has to be on a 10 day hold in our county and we did not want him to go to a shelter. Any advice for what to do would greatly help!

Call a rescue centre, he needs help that you can’t give him. This isn’t about the money, this is about him living a full and normal life. He needs training better than you can give him, it’s not his fault

Do not return him to the breeder, if he’s this distressed it won’t be good for him. If you can’t keep him then forget the money, find someone who can train him. This is a pet, your money is gone, don’t be horrible

How old is the puppy and how did it get to the point of "attacking" you? What were you doing to it?

Forget the money and ring a rescue centre that can help him. It's not the dogs fault and going back to the breeder is a terrible idea.

That poor puppy. Please do not send it back to the breeder. It is clearly distressed already. As others have said, try to find a rescue centre for German Shepherds. Forget about the money and put the welfare of the dog first.

Not everyone who buys a puppy wants a project. I would tell the breeder to refund you or get both social media/lawyers involved. A puppy causing stitches?!

An how is the OP going to find a loving home? ‘German Shepherd with anger issues needs loving home, ideally close to a minor injuries unit....’

There are several here suggesting a ‘loving home’, none so far offering to be the loving home.

What are you on about @larrygrylls?! Puppies bite and nip and yes, it bloody hurts and can cause bleeding. It wouldn't surprise me if a big pup like a German Shepherd could cause serious injury like that if it was genuinely distressed.

The breeder has no obligation to take the dog back - it's not like it's faulty! OP presumably went to see the dogs and bought the pup "as seen" - it's hers now. She can either take it to a rescue where I'm sure it'll be snapped up in a matter of days (puppies always are) or she can get some help through her vets or through an accredited behaviourist.

More information needed, like the age of the puppy, the credentials of the breeder, when you say kennel is the pup outside ?

Op we need way more information here. How old is the dog? What were the circumstances of the bite? By 'kennel' is he an outdoors dog, or is that a crate inside? How are you trying to get him out - not many dogs will be ok with strangers pulling them out. You need to give him time to settle, and encourage him out with treats.

You should have accepted half the money. I understand this is not what you have expected and not all dog relationships work so I won't be blaming you.... but you had a chance to return, the breeder would have kept him safe and found a new home.

Good god don’t return him to the breeder! It sounds like he’s had a hard time. Call a rescue center and he might have a chance but at being rehabilitated.

More info needed. How old is the pup? How was it with you both when you first met the pup? What country are you in? How did you find this breeder and what is in your contract?

He's terrified and was most likely mistreated by the breeder.

Animal behaviourist should be your first point of call.

Some shelters will euthanise any dog with biting history, so please research where you take him.

The puppy is 16 weeks old. He is already 42 pounds, so he is a big guy. He was timid with me but terrified when he saw my husband.
We are sending him to a rescue. And those saying that I am being “horrible”, this dog had done it before and the breeder did not let us know. We’re getting a lawyer involved for that reason, but sending him to a rescue.

I think you are doing the right thing. It is very rare for puppies to be aggressive, this poor soul must have had an awful upbringing so far and will need expert handling to be turned around.

I’ve had GSDs all my life and you need to be a little bit careful with GSD breeders. Because the breed are large, powerful and used by the police, some numpties decide to breed ‘protection’ dogs. All they manage to do is breed and rear aggressive animals. Especially in some countries, those with a matcho reputation, GSDs are a status symbol for idiotic men and are bred and reared accordingly.

I thought it was just because I was a new person. My husband was not with me, he was working. Why comment that if you aren’t offering any help.

It's not your fault, I'm angry on your behalf. Please be honest with the rescue, so they know what they're dealing with.
I hope you get your money back, id like to hear the outcome.
