Labrador puppy and baby Please help!

Really worried
I've had labs before but never with kids

I'll make this brief: dp got us a lab pub as a bit of surprise yesterday. Since pup has been here , youngest dd who is one years old has got a temperature.
Puppy kept licking her! On her face! Dp said it's not a big deal but I was agitated, kept wiping face after he did it.

Iv kept dd close to me but her cheeks are red, temperature and loose stools can this be caused by pup? It may sound like a silly question but I'm so worried and irritated. I can't enjoy puppy or Christmas COs I'm constantly worried

Has anyone got a puppy and a young dc? What do u do if they lick them? How do U cope? Etc with hygiene.
Puppy has been at her toys but I put them all in the sink

I'm just overwhelmed. I see so many families with dogs and young dcs especially round here where we live as it's very countryside

Please someone reassure me I can't have my dd I'll and I don't want to have to get rid of pup Sad

DP is a twat. Nobody surprises anybody with a puppy on Christmas Eve.
And if it’s a pup it’ll be from a puppy farm. No decent breeder would sell a pup without meeting the whole family.
Don’t let the pup lick the baby. Has it been wormed?
But more to the point who is going to toilet train, walk, pay for and train this dog?

I said this too! I couldn't believe when he walked in with it! Apparently it was from a family with their dog having a litter the family were rich and lived in a huge house!!

I dunno how I'm gonna do it immreally really stressed have no idea what to do
Apparently worked and fleas have a vet certification confirming it

It will be from a puppy farm. I don’t know why you let it in the house if you didn’t want a dog. Is he always such a total twat?

This must be a wind up.

If it is true:

Your puppy cannot have made you child ill. Your husband is an idiot to buy a surprise dog. It cannot have come from a reputable breeder.

You need to re home the pup via a reputable rescue tomorrow. You should never have got a surprise pup and you are not ready to be pet owners.

Call the rspca tomorrow and give the pup a chance of a decent life.

This is exactly how puppy farms work isn't it? You don't get taken out to see the filthy rows of pens. They stage a lovely home environment to make the sale.

Op firstly get a very big playpen or linking gates and corner off an area of the living room, put all baby toys in, dummies, blankets etc with a soft rug to sit on. Us it to seperate baby from pup all the time, the bigger you can make it the better.
I had 2 under 2 and a large dog( not a pup though) our huge play pen was a lifesaver all baby/toddler things in it and dog kept out, l could put baby down safely too inside.

Then really think hard on whether or not you want a large dog, this is a 15 year commitment for the whole family and should not be a surprise... a dog is not a toy.

Who will train/ walk twice daily, be at home etc?

Before everyone jumps and says it is not the puppy, some kids can have allergies to dogs and this would mean some of those symptoms. Please do not totally say it is not.

Fingers crossed it is nothing to do with it though and if not an allergy it should clear up soon and you can confirm this x

I used to foster labradors over ten years ago
Dp has surprised us with pup which was big shock to me.

I am not lying at all, why would I? I have never had labs withndc. I used to look after labs ages ago in my single days, I could commit fully to them and loved going for walks etc

No? I was a volunteer for dogs trust and Lima's animal rescue
This was over ten years ago prob about 15 to be more precise, I'm a huge animal lover an dused to dedicate summers to fostering

Since having dc I haven't ever had dogs, I think doing has taken it seriously when I always mention how I loved having dogs! Obviously why he went and surprised us
We've just had an extension so that was his idea he said

I will look them up but I'm honestly none the wiser, I've had cats but not dogs in years. I feel overwhelmed by it all - having a young dd and pup
