Has anyone used diatomaceous earth food grade for de fleaing your home, I have been given a sofa that I think has got fleas so I want to fumigate it, I have used a chemical flea spray but I want to make sure it is fairly flea free as the seats and back are hollow fibre they are just to big to wash even if I could I wouldn’t be able to lift it, I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on what I can do to be sure.

Fleas are a pain to get rid of but it can be done with the right time, effort and products. Speak to a veterinary practice to get ahold of a good flea spray, "Indoorex" and "Flea-B-Gone" are both really good. You want to get any pets out of the room you're treating (especially birds and fish), close all the windows and curtains and make it dark and hot.
Spray everywhere, around skirting boards and sofas, edges of flooring (fleas love the crevices!) and wash any bedding or covers/cushions on the hottest wash possible. After 30 mins, open all the curtains and windows and air out the room, and hoover EVERYWHERE. Send your pets (once they've had a flea treatment) into the room and any leftover fleas will jump on them and die. Just be aware that most flea treatments only kill adult fleas, not the larvae that live in the environment, so you'll want to repeat this a couple times a week. The flea lifecycle can take a while (up to 4 months) to break.
