It's DS' b'day on Sunday - do we get a kitten or not?!?!?

I need help! We had two cats which we had to give away to a very kind MNer a couple of years ago due to moving to a rented house that said no cats.

DD hs never really forgiven us and goes on about them allll the time. DS is totally obssessed by cats and spends most of his day being one!!

His b'day is on Sunday and we are considering getting a kitten. DP and I have had cats our whole lives and it feels like something is missing without them!

On the down side, I'm 23 weeks pg with baby #4 so can't clean out the tray, and as we live on 3rd floor it'd have to be an indoor cat with a tray. There is a slight possibility that cats were a contributing factor to a bad cough that dd had years back - but was never 100% convinced.

What would you do??

Honestly ? If i were you, then no.

NuttyMuffins · 15/06/2007 21:07

Actually if i were me i'd say no too LOL.

Not get one for now, give it until the toddler is at least 2 and slightly less likely to clean the floor with a cat (which dd1 used to try to do) then think about it again. Get them something caged instead (hamster/gerbil)

My advice is NO.

hercules1 · 15/06/2007 21:10

Really? Do you think it'd be that bad?

apart from all the jolly good reasons you have cited which mean a kitten is not the best idea atm, where on earth would you get one at such short notice?

lemonaid · 15/06/2007 21:15

You could get your immunity checked to see if clearing out the tray would actually be an issue. If you've lived with cats your whole life then there's an excellent chance that you're already immune.

Whoooosh · 15/06/2007 21:15

No- really don't think it is a good idea for you or the cat-sorry.
How about a hamster?

pirategirl · 15/06/2007 21:16

I f u areon the 3rd floor, i wouldn't, you are going t be forever doing the litter tray thing.

Sounds like there are ltos of reasons not too get one at this stage. You certainly wont have the time when baby comes.

maybe be one day. i know it would be great. how about a fur real pet instead!!!!

LIZS · 15/06/2007 21:17

no , get him a Furreal one instead.

Jojay · 15/06/2007 21:17

Probably being over sentimental but I don't think cats should live in 3rd floor flats - sorry
