My cat was killed on the road

Hi there Iam.justwandering if anyone can offer any advice on how to cope with the death of a cat on the road. We had him about 6 months and I grew so attached to him. We found him this morning on way to school just at top of our drive and the kids and I are utterly gutted. People keep telling me to pull myself together and focus on the positives but my heart is breaking for my cat. He was my best friend and done everything with me around the house. And the best about it was last night before I put him out I was complaining about him being under my feet. I feel so guilty.can't seem to get myself together.

Flowers Didn't want to read and not post. That's awful, really feel for you. It's the one thing I"m genuinely worried about as we just have a kitten..I was contemplating keeping him indoors but my Dad rightly said, they deserve to go outside and smell the flowers, feel the wind in their faces etc. You have given him a lovely lovely life. Sadly, it's the risk they take being outdoors. Please don't blame yourself. Losing a pet in any circumstances is heartbreaking.

Thank u so much means a lot. I have a lot of guilt and blame about letting her out etc but as u say a cat can't be indoors all the time. Time is the only thing I think that heals pain like this 😞

Ah I'm sorry, it's hard to lose someone you love. I lost my puss after 10 years together and it's awful. That was 3m ago and next week we're going to welcome 2 new cats from the rescue home. I feel guilty about "replacing her" but know that she'd want other cats to have the same chance of a better life that she did .

Yes toastedbeagle your new wee cats will never replace but lift your mind a bit. We have 3 other cats alongside my we one that was killed this morning and they have def provided me with some comfort. It's horrible. Feels like the pain will never go away. I am in a vicious circle of over thinking and blaming myself at min too. Suffocating at time s 😞

I’m so sorry. Cats LOVE going outside though so please don’t feel guilty. Be really kind to yourself.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's a difficult choice every cat owner has to make.

Our three are indoor cats, but we have a second story deck they can go out on that looks out over the woods. They spend hours out there when the weather is okay. If we didn't have the deck I'd build them a catio. While they love the outdoors we're on a busy road and have coyotes in the area, so I couldn't let them wander with a clear conscience .

Sorry for your loss OP, please don’t blame yourself. You’re in shock at the moment and grieving. Take care of yourself Flowers
