We are thinking about geting a Whippet. Anyone have good/bad experiences to pass on? Haven't had a dog before, have had cats and hamsters, so am feeling a bit nervous. Our DC is 5 and pretty sensible around animals.

Thanks.

your dog sounds lovely, nipping and mouthing is normal puppy behaviour, but they do have to learn that it is not acceptable. I tend to do this by letting the dog know that it hurts and reacting such, then walk away, ignore him, he will soon get the message that this is not the way to get mums attention.

Many years ago, we had a whippet (rescue dog). She was fabulous with the kids and the cat & rabbit. She was also very easy to retrain to walk and not chase things etc. She was gorgeous and I would definately recommend whippets as pets.
