Can indoor goldfish be moved to an outside pond?

Have a goldfish who keeps getting bigger. I can't buy him another tank....I hate the current tank...takes up a chunk of the Frontroom already. A bigger one would need more space😫

And it's not good for him (fatlad...because he grows so much). He looks like a koi-carp fish.

Body length is over 6-7inches and with his tail almost 9-10inches.

Considering building a pond for him but can an indoor fish go outside?

I won a goldfish at the fair with the dcs. Took him home put him straight in our (small) outside pond. Over a year later, he's grown massively and is doing really well. Often see him nibbling pond weed; we don't feed him at all.
I couldn't believe he survived the winter and spring when it was below freezing for so long, but he did.

I would say yes BUT when moving him make sure you gradually lower the temp of the water so he doesn't go into shock. So you could put him in a fish transport bag with water and float it on top of the pond fist so that his body temp gently lowers in line with the pond then once the water in the bag is the same as the pond you can let him out of the bag.

Indoor Goldies can definitely go outside BUT it has to be done at the right time of year. This is the wrong time. You would still need a good sized pond with a filtration system ideally, but you've got the winter now to research it and he can be moved out to a nice new pond in the spring as soon as we have no more frosts - maybe around April-May time.

If he's a Koi type he'll have little whiskers around his mouth. Common Goldies can still get big, but no mouth whiskers.
