2 kittens, does gender matter?

Looking to adopt 2 kittens soon, does it matter what gender they are in terms of fighting more/less?

Not that I've observed, as long as the males are neutered. Some male cats can be very sweet and some females can be quite combative.

I adopted two litter mates as kittens, a boy and a girl and they get on famously.

Sex might matter, not gender though.

I’ve currently got a Male and a female and they are fine together.

I don't think so but of course if they are not the same then neutering will need to be done asap!

I wouldn't get two females, just based on my experience that one becomes the boss, and the other can get bullied. I haven't seen this happen with two (neutered) males, or (neutered) male and female cats. Purely anecdotal!

I see sexnotgender (great username!) beat me to it. It’s sex. Not gender. Do cats even have gender roles? I would choose male cats over female cats if unneutered as the operation is cheaper. But if they’re neutered there’s no real difference other if you have one of each the male will likely grow a bit bigger than the female and could bully her.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 12/09/2018 15:19

Hah! Female cats rule the roost in my experience!

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2018 15:23

I have three girls, one boy (Mum, boy/girl siblings and another girl)
My boy is the biggest, he's giant, half Maine Coon and the silliest, scaredy pile of fluff ever, terrified of his own shadow.
My eldest rules the roost and she only has three legs!

My male cat is enormous and my female cat TINY, like 8 month old kitten tiny. Boy cat doesn’t bully her, they generally get on very well.

So it seems 1 of each sex to get Smile

We've had cats over the years that are lovely and some that were less so. Didn't matter much what sex they were.
