Decent flea treatment i.e. advocate without yet more appointments?

The cats are fine but I need more flea drops as ran out about three months back. Apparently have to have another checkup before they're prescribed. They're healthy and up to date with jabs, no change in weight in 6 months or whatever since last seen and I resent paying 40 quid for two new appointments to tell me they're fine ... Just to pony up for the advocate. Which isn't cheap anyway

Is frontline really as crap as they say it is these days? Can I get anything else just over the counter to keep them and the house flea free?

Bloody Hell Mumsnet, you actually did me a huge favour there (cheap Advantage without wormer for cats).

Frontline stopped working for us about 2 years ago (boohoo).

I haven't used Frontline personally as I have heard some negatives. I once bought over the counter Bob Martin flea treatment and it burnt through my cats hair. It was awful.

I think your vet is being really cheeky, we are able to buy Advocate treatment direct from our vet as needed without a check up.

I think it sounds like you need to change your vet rather than risk a different treatment on your cat.

Apparantly the rules about flea treatment containing a certain chemical were changed by the Royal Vet School and not the vets. If your vet sells advocate you will be be able to buy it from them because they have given the pets their annual booster and seen them. IF they don't sell it then you will have to pay for a prescription to buy it online. Scrips only last 6 months and you will have to pay for another one after 6 months. Spripts at my vet are £26.50. My dog was 2 weeks away from his annual check up and they would NOT give me a prescription until he as seen even though I argued that he was within 2 weeks of being a year since he was seen. I think Vets need regulating and fast before no one can afford a pet!

@Suerh45 you realise my post you’re replying to is nearly 7 years old right??
