No solutions here I'm afraid, but can I ask what type of vacuum cleaner you have and whether it picks up hairs from carpets easily? Our 2 black labs produce a mountain of hair too.

sparklygothkat · 03/06/2007 21:24

brush her daily. I have a long haired cat, and hairs get everywhere. I have a dyson which is good at getting the hairs up

jo25 · 03/06/2007 21:24

Cant you just hoover the dog daily, i have done this and also has a friend who does this daily

WriggleJiggle · 03/06/2007 21:26

Tried hoovering the dog in desperation last week - they were NOT amused and made their 30kgs of feeling known! We have a dyson, but I was hoping for something that worked a bit better, ours just seems fairly rubbish.

I have the pet dyson which is great so I guess there is nothing more I can do, live with it sounds like best advice!

I've got a Henry hover, works well on my collies long fluffy clingy hair, also British made and cheaper than Dyson! That or shave them!

Stroo · 05/06/2007 17:28

My sister's little girl sneezed and fell over onto the dog haired carpet at the same time........................instant goatie beard!!!

bitzermaloney · 05/06/2007 17:28

Daily grooming will go a long way to helping... but unfortunately labs are made to shed! Here's a link to show you how to groom effectively. It's no good just going at it with one of those bristle brushes... you won't get much out at all. A pink zoom groom is fab for labradors.

We've just bought a Roomba (robot vacuum cleaner) for less than our Dyson Animal cost, and it's great! I go out walking the dogs and come back to a hairless living room (for five minutes).

Macdog · 05/06/2007 18:40

Have you tried a Wonderbroom?
Got mine in Woolworths.
I use it to scuff the hairs etc in to a heap then hoover the heap up.
Works for me

LKLN · 07/06/2007 10:52

thx for all thi advice I am purchasing wonderbroom and vitapet today.....let you know how we get on........

There is a grooming tool called the 'furminator' (naff name!!) that claims if used once a week can reduce shredding by 80-90%. I am thinking of getting one for my GSD X and my 2 cats.

I have threatened ;to put our ;mutt in a plastic bag with just his paws and head sticking out so I sympathise and yes, the Dyson is cr*p at dog hair....(am kididng about the plastic bag...)

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 11:46

we have a black and white springer and a black and white catso this house can be pethair city. I have the dyson animal and it works well for me, when it gets bad I use the smaller turbo brush. I have also just bought a bissell heat cleaner that deals with hair and smell. I also get through lots of brown tape!

Macdog · 07/06/2007 17:58
