10 wk old puppy and 3 yr old

Had our puppy cocker spaniel called Charlie for 3 weeks now. He's getting on ok but finding it very hard for 3 yr old dd to play. She cant put her toys on the floor when he's around as he obviusly goes for them all. So when he's about she's restricted to a little table and is mising her freedom a little i feel. We crate him when he has a sleep and we try to make the use of that time as best we can. Anyone with similar experiences and what do you do?

I've got 13 week old puppy and 2 yr old dd, dd is having the same problems as yours, some of the time I use the stairgate to keep the puppy in the kitchen with me while dd can play with some toys in the lounge, or she plays with them while she sleeps, she also plays at families houses when I'm at work part time and at toddler group. But dd loves playing with the puppy and they get on so well together, the puppy will grow up soon. I spent time with puppies as a child and know my mum must have had the same problems but I remember plying with our dog with far more fondness than I remeber plying with my sindy house!
