Am Going On Holiday...Cattery or Care At Home?

As some of you may vauguely I got a little boy kitten over Easter hols. We are going away for 10 days over the August hols. My kitten would be around six months at that time. I am unsure whether he would be better off in a cattery or being cared for at home (assuming I can find a friend who isn't going away during that time, which is proving difficult!). Am willing to consider a pet care company.

Taking into account his age, (and the possibility that he may have been castrated a week or two before we go) what option would you choose?

Are there only dog owners online at the moment?

I much prefer someone coming in if you can do it - have used pet sitters in the past myself. Cats much prefer being in their own place - although I'd now lock mine in for the holiday, having once come back to a disappeared cat (found her in the end, but a horrid week).

It's also a great reassurance, to know that the post is being picked up. curtains moved etc etc.

Don't discount catteries though - some of them round here are 5 star palaces with all mod cons. The one we use is owned by two cat mad people who have five cats of their own. My cat even had Christmas dinner and a pressie on Christmas Day which she bought home!
