No, the walking will be great for your DD. I had a 1yo Great Dane when I had my first DC and it was brilliant - gets me & children out of the house everyday, rain or shine.

Probably be more hygienic whilst paper-training if you can put a safety gate up and keep the puppy in the hall or kitchen. But otherwise let the pair of them bond as much as possible

Your DD will also learn to keep her toys out of the way to avoid them being chewed. And it helped my DD to learn that the day wasn't centred around her.

What breed are you getting?

Lost the plot... no, not at all, if you are prepared to train dog and DD to respect each other's space it will be fine.

But do your homework and choose a bread that matches your lifestyle well.

i got the puppy i got the puppy i got the puppy - he is sooooo cute. We wanted a border terrier but ended up with a border/patterdale so in true designer dog styleee i'll refer to him as a patterborder. We looked at some borders but they weren't suitable as one set were not raised in a family environment and the others were raised in the family from hell environment (no really, R.A.F rough as......) and clearly had been roughed up and didnt want to interact. This little boy came from a lovely house where we saw mum and piccies of the dad and BONUS was £100 cheaper!!! Can't think of a name for toffee though, any ideas?

My sister got a pup at the weekend.

King Charles, rather lazily named Charlie.

put a pic of him on your profile. it will be much easier for us mnetters to throw names at you then!

dionnelorraine · 28/05/2007 16:11

or start a new thread headlining 'name my puppy'

That will get all the MN's going!
