Advice please: keeping cat out of bedroom?

Hi, hope this is the place to post this and hopefully get some help! Need some suggestions from other cat owners on how you managed to keep your cats out of the bedroom that don't involve just closing the door or getting rid of the cat.

I'm due in a few weeks, and our old rescue cat has become very needy lately with me, especially at night. Last night he woke me up at least 5 times wanting attention, or wanting to cuddle in beside my neck or bump - in this heatwave! - or just wanting to have a "chat". So didn't get any sleep and am the end of my tether. Also, I am worried he will try and cuddle in with the baby.

I have tried closing the door on him at night, but the heat is unbearable even with the window opened, so had to open it again. Plus he just throws himself against the door and cries all night which is quite upsetting for both of us.

Been looking at baby gates, but they seem quite low - easy for a cat to jump over - or the gaps are too wide - a determined cat could squeeze through. Thought about a screen door, but they take a while to get made and installed, plus not too sure how effective they would be against a set of razor sharp nails - I cut his nails weekly, but they grow freakishly fast and strong!

Any suggestions would be of great help. Already bad enough trying to get some sleep in this heat when you feel like a beached whale, without being annoyed constantly by a demanding cat. Thanks!

It may sound cruel but if you're desperate. How does your cat feel about aerosol sprays? One of those motion sensor air fresheners placed in the door way will give a little hiss every time the cat walks by and by negative association it might convince the cat to stay out! Since they spray straight up it's not actually going to spray the cat just make the noise they don't like.
